We believe in a comprehensive, student-centered approach to individual and community health.
We’re deeply committed to providing every member of our community with the mental, emotional and physical support they need so they can always show up as their best and boldest selves.
The Colgate Wellness Center (CWC) is the foundation of health and wellness at Miss Porter’s School. At the CWC, health and counseling professionals collaborate closely with a team of external providers, internal experts and key school administrators. They also connect with parents, teachers, house directors and staff members across campus to gain a deeper understanding of each student’s needs and to deliver comprehensive, multidisciplinary and evidence-based care.
Play an Active Role in Your Health & Wellness
We acknowledge the fundamental role that identity and each student’s unique needs play across every aspect of their physical, mental and emotional health, and we encourage all members of our community to be active participants in their health promotion, care and prevention. That’s why, in addition to providing holistic health and wellness services, the CWC clinical and counseling teams lead campuswide wellness initiatives that drive student education in self-awareness and self-advocacy skills. As a result, you’ll develop the tools you need to care for yourself and advocate for your individual health—now and into the future.
The CWC offers 24/7 nursing coverage to treat common illnesses and injuries as well as acute and chronic conditions.
The CWC’s first floor houses an eight-bed infirmary that provides outpatient primary care, daily medication administration and short-term overnight services.
Our full medical and clinical staff evaluate, diagnose and treat ailments. When a specialist or emergency care is necessary, they refer out to local healthcare providers.
Farmington, Connecticut offers comprehensive primary, specialty, rehab, and urgent care services through major hospital networks like Hartford HealthCare, UConn Health, and The Hospital of Central Connecticut.
You’ll also find a wide range of trusted private practices—providing everything from dental to chiropractic to mental health care—just minutes from the Porter’s campus.
Our counseling office offers long- and short-term therapy services so students can access the personalized support they need to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. In addition to individual mental health counseling, the counseling office offers a wide range of supports to promote student well-being, including mindfulness and relaxation tools, a dedicated relaxation room, animal-assisted therapy and group therapy and mediation.
“It is truly an honor to help our students thrive and grow through all the experiences in their lives.”
