Sustainability

For today and the future.

Miss Porter’s School leads by example, driving sustainable practices that reduce our ecological footprint while honoring our history and caring for our community.

Rows of blue solar panels cover the roofs of a white building under a clear blue sky, with leafless trees visible in the background.

From energy-efficient LED lighting and solar power to modern HVAC systems, high-performance window glazing, and EV charging stations, our sustainability initiatives reduce carbon emissions while creating a smarter, more resilient built environment.

A garden with green shrubs, blooming pink flowers, and plants with clusters of small, white, round buds, set in front of a wooden fence and a weathered house. A tree stands among the plants.

Our land management approach weaves together a retention pond planted with water-loving perennials, native species, and diverse flora to support local wildlife habitats. It’s all maintained through eco-friendly horticultural practices and a partnership with local agencies designed to steward the riverfront.

Four tan armchairs arranged around a small round wooden table in front of large windows with a view of trees and a brick building outside. The chairs sit on a gray tiled floor in a bright, modern room.

Our sustainable building philosophy embraces adaptive reuse and historic preservation. We incorporate eco-friendly materials, reclaimed wood from on-site tree removals and integrated renewable energy systems to honor the past while building responsibly for the future.

A group of young people plant seedlings in raised garden beds on a sunny day outside a brick building, working together under a covered patio.

Students drive our sustainability mission through hands-on initiatives, including an on-campus apiary, food-waste composting and town-wide clean-ups. These initiatives foster a love of the outdoors and environmental stewardship through volunteer activities that connect learning to real-world impact.
