GIVING
Because she will.
Miss Porter’s School was built by women. For generations, women have given their time, advocacy and money to sustain an exceptional education for girls. They’ve used their power to ensure that Porter’s endures—educating each new generation of girls for the futures they’ll define for themselves.
Generous donations from our Ancients, parents, grandparents and friends allow Porter’s to care for our historic campus, provide tuition assistance to families, fund global learning experiences for every student, pay teachers well and keep the lights on.
From opportunity to action, and from scholarships to endowment: every gift—your best gift—strengthens Sarah Porter’s founding mission.

The Annual Fund
The Annual Fund is an important tool, funding 10-13% of the school’s operating budget every year. Most donors invest in the everyday excellence that is a hallmark of MPS through the Annual Fund. Gifts of all sizes immediately impact our students through the collective power of your philanthropy.
Our trustees adhere to a long-term financial model built on a disciplined 4.5% annual spending policy, balancing impact today with long-term institutional strength and endurance. At that spending rate, it would take approximately $66.7 million in new endowment dollars to generate the same impact as $3 million in Annual Fund support.
That’s why Annual Fund gifts matter so deeply. They provide immediate flexible resources that power every student experience, life-shaping teaching and the sustainability of our historic campus—all in support of an ambitious 21st-century girls’ education. Your Annual Fund gift does today what tens of millions in endowment growth would be required to do tomorrow.
Give once, monthly or throughout the year—gifts of all sizes and frequencies are vital to supporting our one-of-a-kind school and community.

Donating appreciated securities—like stocks or mutual funds—is a great way to support Porter’s. If you own shares that have appreciated in value, you can give them to the school, in which case you won’t have to pay any capital gains tax on your “paper profit.” And if you’ve held them for over a year, you can receive a federal income tax charitable deduction for the full appreciated value of the securities, subject to some limitations.
When you are ready to send your gift of securities, follow these directions to help us properly credit your gift. Or you can contact the database and gift services manager at 860-409-3625 with your name, the type and number of shares, and gift designation when the gift is sent. Miss Porter’s School will credit the gift at the mean value on the day of irrevocable transfer to our account.
Miss Porter’s School is a 501(c)(3) organization. Our federal tax ID is 06-0646786.

Many companies offer dollar-for-dollar philanthropic matches to their employee’s charitable giving. Some even match on a 2-to-1 basis, tripling the impact of your gift to Porter’s! Retirees can often participate, too.
Help further your impact and check if your company offers a matching program!
